Description
An English Requiem was composed for Southwark Cathedral's Merbecke Choir conducted by Huw Morgan in 2011.
Its ten movements set sections of the traditional Requiem texts in English translation, interspersed with settings of poems by Lord Byron ("The Cornelian") and Tennyson (introduction to "In Memoriam") about love and loss. The Pie Jesu is set for a boy treble and there are also solo parts for soprano, tenor and baritone in a reasonably advanced but essentially tonal style.
